English golfer Lee Westwood has been crowned as the World’s number one golfer, ending Tiger Woods’s incredible 281 week reign at the top. Westwood becomes the first European World No.1 since Nick Faldo in 1994, ending a 16 year wait for British and European fans.
The title could easily have gone to highly rated German golfer Martin Kaymer, who needed a top-two finish at Valderrama to guarantee himself the No.1 ranking. Kaymer fell at the final hurdle however, finishing well below the leaders by the end of play Sunday.
Former World No.1 Tiger Woods sees his fall from the top of the sport continue, after injuries, revelations about his personal life and a long break from the sport. He also performed well below expectations at the Ryder Cup, sparking further debate about whether or not the former champion will ever regain his previous unstoppable form.
